A Live-Action Barney Movie Is Happening Because Why Not
Barney. Barney could happen.
You remember Barney, from Barney & Friends? The big purple dinosaur full of love and friendship? He's coming back to our screens thanks to Mattel Films and also Daniel Kaluuya, star of Get Out and Marvel's Black Panther.
"Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood," Kaluuya said in a statement.
"We're excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of 'I love you, you love me' can stand the test of time," Kaluuya continued.
“The project will speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults, while entertaining today’s kids.”
“Working with Daniel Kaluuya will enable us to take a completely new approach to ‘Barney’ that will surprise audiences and subvert expectations,” said a representative for Mattel Films.
No word yet on if it'll be Kaluuya himself inside the big purple costume, but we can only hope.
I can't tell if this is going to be an excellent movie to take your kids to, or some kind of gritty reboot, but either way, I'm actually kind of excited to learn more about it.
