Food Network Chef Carl Ruiz's Cause Of Death Revealed As A Heart Attack

The culinary world lost a shining star last month with the death of 44-year-old chef Carl Ruiz.

Carl was remembered as a "mighty force" with an "infectious humor" by those closest to him at his resturant, La Cubana.

"No words can fully express our sadness at the sudden loss of our dear friend and brother," the statement continued.

Friend and fellow chef Guy Fieri extended his condolences on social media as well.

"I’m heartbroken that my friend chef Carl Ruiz is gone. I have no words to describe what a great friend he was to me and my family. His ability to make me laugh and smile under any circumstances was only outshined by his talent as a chef," Fieri wrote.

Now, almost a month after his passing, the official cause of death has been revealed.

According to TMZ, Ruiz died from a hardening of his arteries.

A spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Health told TMZ that Ruiz died after succumbing to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The finding confirms the suspicions of Ruiz's family that he died of a heart attack in his sleep.
