Reese Witherspoon Has Deleted Her Tweet Supporting Ellen DeGeneres After Major Backlash

Ellen Degeneres and George W. Bush sat next to each other at an NFL game on Sunday, and the internet had some less than kind things to say about this unlikely friendship.

After Ellen defended herself on her show, dozens of celebrities have praised her for standing up for herself, including Reese Witherspoon.

But as the backlash from fans raged on, Reese was forced to delete her tweet that supported Ellen to try and save face.

If you watched the Dallas Cowboys vs. Greenbay Packers game on Sunday, you may have spotted Ellen DeGeneres in the stands sitting next to former president, George Bush.

The pair seemed like they were having a great time together. But for obvious reasons, this was not a sight anyone expected to see.

While they are definitely an odd pair to see together due to political differences, it actually frustrated fans to see them hitting it off.

They did not hold back their criticisms on social media.

Ellen inevitably caught wind of all the backlash and addressed it this week on her show.

She explained that she and her wife were invited to the Cowboys game by the daughter of the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones.

"I took a video of who was next to me," she said before playing a clip of George Bush smiling in the seat next to her.

"During the game, they showed a shot of George and me laughing together, and uh — people were upset."

"Here's the thing," she went on. "I'm friends with George Bush."

"In fact, I'm friends with a lot of people who don't share the same beliefs that I have."

"They thought 'Why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative republican president?'"

"We're all different and I think that we've forgotten that that's okay — that we're all different," she went on.

"Just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be friends with them," she said.

"When I say be kind to one another, I don’t mean only the people that think the same way that you do."

Dozens of celebs showed their support for Ellen after her speech, among them was Reese Witherspoon, with this tweet:

Despite the support Ellen was receiving from her peers, fans were still not having it and have now aimed their criticism at the celebrities who have shown their support for her — starting with Reese.

Reese was forced to delete her tweet because of the overwhelming number of negative comments.

Fans were shocked to see that Reese had sided with Ellen in support of being friends with George Bush.

Other celebs, like Mark Ruffalo, were praised for unabashedly speaking out against Ellen and the celebrities who support her friendship with George Bush.

Reese's tweet, on the other hand, did not receive even remotely as much praise.

Fans were hopeful that Reese would not end up being one of the celebrities to show their support for Ellen.

It was a real disappointment for them to find out that she did.

This person passionately expressed her their dismay over the issue by telling Reese and Ellen that they are diminishing the struggle of those that were affected by decisions George Bush made during his presidency.

Pretty heavy stuff.

Fans blatantly called out Reese and the other celebrities in support of Ellen for simultaneously supporting a "war criminal".

I'm sure this is not what Reese had in mind when she made that tweet.

This person is calling the issue a classic case of white privilege.

Do you think it's a coincidence that most of the people who have shown their support for Ellen are other rich people?

Other people are really not surprised by Reese stance on the issue whatsoever — in fact, they saw it coming.
