Ellen DeGeneres Defends Herself After Seen Watching NFL Game With George W. Bush

Ellen Degeneres and George W. Bush sat next to each other at an NFL game on Sunday, and the internet had some less than kind thoughts about this unlikely friendship.

After the outrage caught Ellen's attention, she made sure to defend herself right away!

If you happened to be watching the Dallas Cowboys vs. Greenbay Packers game on Sunday, you may have spotted Ellen DeGeneres and her wife sitting right next to former president, George W. Bush and his wife.

For obvious reasons, this was not a sight anyone expected to see.

While they are an odd pairing of friends due to political differences, it actually made fans angry to see them together.

And they weren't shy about airing out their anger on Twitter.

While some people tried to defend Ellen and George for getting along, not everybody saw it as a positive thing.

This person pointed out that George Bush didn't agree with gay marriage, and as you probably already know, Ellen is married to a woman.

For the most part, fans seemed frustrated that Ellen could seem so friendly with somebody she knowingly has such different values than.

It's no secret that George Bush's political views are against everything that Ellen is.

The backlash from fans did not go unnoticed and it didn't take long for Ellen to address the complaints on her show.

"So, I want to talk about something that happened this weekend," she began.

"This weekend I went to Dallas for the Cowboys game," she explained.

"It may not seem like a big deal for a celebrity to attend a football game — but uh — I never leave my house, so, it is a big deal," she joked.

"So, there were 100,000 people in this stadium — beautiful stadium by the way."

"Portia and I were invited by Charlotte Jones. She is the daughter of Jerry Jones, who owns the Dallas Cowboys.

"We went because we wanted to keep up with the Joneses," she joked.

"So anyway, we get to sit in this very fancy suite, 'cause you know, he owns the whole place. His suite is fancy and he's got fancy friends."

"I took a video of who was next to me," she said before playing a clip of George Bush smiling in the seat next to her.

"When we were invited, I was aware that I was going to be surrounded by people with very different views and beliefs."

"And I'm not talking about politics," she joked again. "I was rooting for the Packers".

"During the game, they showed a shot of George and me laughing together, and uh — people were upset."

"They thought 'Why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative republican president?'"

"[They] didn't even notice I'm holding the brand new iPhone 11," she joked.

"But a lot of people were mad, and they did what people do when they're mad — they tweet."

"Here's the thing," she went on. "I'm friends with George Bush. In fact, I'm friends with a lot of people who don't share the same beliefs that I have."

"We're all different and I think that we've forgotten that that's okay — that we're all different."

"For instance, I wish people wouldn't wear fur. I don’t like it, but I’m friends with people who wear fur."

"And I'm friends with people who are furry, as a matter of fact."

"But just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be friends with them,"

"When I say be kind to one another, I don’t mean only the people that think the same way that you do."

"Even people who are already playing Christmas music," she joked. "There’s no excuse for that, but I’m kind to them."
