Piers Morgan Fires At Prince Harry's Emotional Statement: 'He’s Not The Only Person Who’s Lost A Parent'

When news breaks, who's the voice you want to hear? When something happens with a celebrity, who's opinion matters to you?

Not Piers Morgan, that's for sure.

And yet, the self-described "annoying, argumentative" TV show host decided to pop off about Harry defending Meghan Markle from the media.

Sigh.

All of this started because how how Meghan Markle is treated by the media.

It takes a quick search for her name on social media to see how disgustingly people speak about Meghan Markle.

People have criticized her about everything, up to and including how she held her baby bump during her pregnancy.

Yes, that happened.

Harry and Meghan have launched a lawsuit against a newspaper.

Mail on Sunday, a sister site to The Daily Mail, published a private letter Meghan had written her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

Thomas released the letter to The Daily Mail and also gave them an interview.

Meghan had written the letter to beg her father to stop talking to the press.

Thomas, who clearly ignored his daughter's wishes, released the letter without her consent.

She wrote the letter in August 2018, three months after she married Harry. Thomas chose not to attend the wedding, an act which Meghan claims she was not informed of ahead of time.

This week, Harry finally had enough.

He released a lengthy statement about the situation, announcing that they would be suing Mail on Sunday and its parent company, Associated Newspapers.

He cited the misuse of private information, infringement of copyright and breach of the Data Protection Act 2018.

He also got very personal.

"I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person.

I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces."

Piers started out so confused!

"It seems to me just very over the top. It’s coming at the end of a very successful week in South Africa, where they’re actually getting all the positive press they haven’t been getting for the last few months.

I don’t get the timing of this."

Here's the Prince's words:

"The positive coverage of the past week from these same publications exposes the double standards of this specific press pack that has vilified her almost daily for the past nine months; they have been able to create lie after lie at her expense simply because she has not been visible while on maternity leave."

Basically, they feel Meghan is only treated respectfully when she's smiling for the camera. If she refuses access to herself, they lash out.

You know, the exact thing Piers himself literally just said.

Piers didn't think Meghan had been bullied.

Well, bullies never think they're bullies, do they?

Anyway, he said: "I think she's been rightly praised and criticized depending on her behavior. Some of the behavior, in the last few months with the pair of them, has been rankly hypocritical, and frankly undeserving of royal status."

Then came the Diana comments.

"I think comparing Meghan to Diana is a mistake. Harry talks about Diana and of course everyone knows the history there and of course, everybody felt for him, but he’s not the only person who’s lost a parent."

That wasn't the point, Piers! Was not the point at all!

He kept going.

"If he’s going to be this vicious about the press collectively he’s got to be entitled to be scrutinized for what he’s actually saying."

Freedom of the press is incredibly important. It also means we get to cover the things Piers says freely, as well.

The press was not responsible for her death, he said.

"Let’s be quite clear, Princess Diana was killed by a speeding drunk driver, she wasn’t killed by the British press. I was a newspaper editor at the time and I feel quite strongly about this…this idea that the press were all personally culpable for what happened to her."

He went on.

"I knew Diana well, I did lots of stuff with Diana, she colluded with the press very regularly, she set up photo situations with the press, she jumped into cars with reporters and gave them her version of stories many, many times," Piers said.

"I don’t think this is the real Harry," he said.

"I think he is being goaded into this by Meghan, who wants to be seeing only good press about herself. It’s not the way it works.

He doesn’t want freedom of the press. He wants the press to be what he wants it to be."

Dude...what?
