Trump Blames Energy-Efficient Light Bulbs For His Orange Appearance

President Donald Trump has finally revealed the reason why he consistently looks unnaturally orange (or Cheeto-like, if you will) at every single one of his public appearances. And apparently, it all comes down to one simple thing: light bulbs.

During his speech at a Republican retreat in Baltimore on Thursday night, Trump told the crowd that it's actually energy-efficient light bulbs that are the cause for his orange hue, which he cited as being one of the reasons for his strong feelings against the eco-friendly bulbs.

During his more than an hour-long speech, Trump went off about green energy and climate conservation.

"What's with the light bulb?" he began before going on to insist energy efficient bulbs are "many times more expensive than that old, incandescent bulb that worked very well" and that "the lights' no good."

He finished off by admitting to the crowd that it's these bulbs that make him look so Oompa-Loompa-like.

"The bulb that we're being forced to use, number one, to me, most importantly, I always look orange," he said, which earned him some laughs from the audience.

"So do you," he added. "The light is the worst."

Trump's administration recently rolled back light bulb efficiency standards.

This is a move which critics believe is the administration's latest attempt to thwart efforts to combat climate change and energy use.

The move was popular among light bulb manufacturers, but not among consumer advocacy groups.

According to The Hill, the new rule “will increase U.S. electricity use by 80 billion kilowatt hours over the course of a year, roughly the amount of electricity needed to power all households in Pennsylvania and New Jersey."

This resulting usage increase not only has negative implications for the environment, but is expected to cost the average household at least $100 extra per year.

As Jason Hartke, president of the Alliance to Save Energy, said, "If you wanted folks to pay a lot more than they should on electric bills, this rollback would be a pretty good way of doing it."

Believe it or not, this was actually the second time Trump brought up light bulbs during a public appearance this week.

At a campaign rally in North Carolina, he brought up his administration's new rule to the crowd.

And he did it in his usual style.

“I’m not a vain person, and I know I have no vain people especially these incredible ladies in the front," he said, "but I look better under an incandescent light than these crazy lights that are beaming down on us.”
