Chicago Beats Out NYC As Home Of America's Best Pizza According To Survey

There are two ways to start a pizza war with your friends: ask them if they want pineapple on their pizza, or if they would rather Chicago's deep dish than a New York thin crust. Go ahead and see for yourself — but prepare for a passionate response or two.

The good folks over at Ranker asked their readers to weigh in on which city boasts the best 'za, and although it was close, there was a clear winner.

Now, this isn't to say that there aren't tons of places to find a great slice in America.

Americans do many things well, and one of the best they do is make pizza. Even mediocre pizza in the U.S. is still a sight better than you'll find just about anywhere else in the world.

When you get right down to it, the real debate when discussing where to get the best pizza comes down to two places: Chicago or New York.

Chicago is famous for its thick, saucy, cheesy pies.

The only thing the city is better known for than its deep dish pizza is da Bears. Their pies are gooey, tomato-y, and seem to have been created more as a dare than anything.

Really, when one of those massive pizzas lands on your table in a cast iron pan, it seems like more of a challenge than a meal.

At the other end of the spectrum are New York City's thin crust pies.

And not the kind of thin crusts that you could use to roof your house if they're cutting up your gums too badly as you eat them. No, we're talking soft, chewy, floppy slices, where you can taste more than marinara and mozzarella.

Everybody has their fave, but which city's pie do more people prefer?

Deep dish took the crown.

Doing what da Bears haven't done lately, Chicago's pizza won the day as Ranker's readers, casting 14,000 votes, rated it the best city in the U.S. to go for a slice or two.
