Night Sky Petunias Can Turn Any Garden Into A Celestial Dream

Our love for galaxy-themed items knows absolutely no bounds. There's truly nothing we couldn't make better with a little DIY magic and lost of glittery stardust, and the patience to get creative, of course.

Or you could always just go to the store and pick up galaxy-themed stuff without having to break out your paints and Pinterest hacks. Whichever way works for you, I guess.

But what if you could take that same galaxy love and turn your garden intergalactic?

Sounds like a dream, right? Wrong, because there's actually a way you can grow the most perfectly starry petunias in your garden and become the envy of your entire neighborhood.

Yeah, those are some nice tulips Debra, but are they galaxy?

Night Sky Petunias, or "Galaxy Flowers", are just the sort of beautiful addition our gardens have been missing.

According to Bustle, these beauties' official scientific name is actually Petunia cultivars, but I think I speak for all of us when I say we much prefer Galaxy Flowers.

They're native to South Africa and sprout these breathtaking deep purple petals, complete with just the right amount of white specks to turn this regular flower into a galaxy lover's dream.

So what is it that gives these flowers their unique intergalactic appearance?

It actually all has to do with varying temperature between nighttime and daytime. During the day, they need to be kept warm at around 100 degrees Fahrenheit while at night they're best kept cool at 50 degrees.

If you want to try your hand at growing your own, you'll want to make sure you follow the right steps.

These are tricky flowers, guys. You can just plant them, water them, and hope for the best. If you want tiny galaxies in your garden, you need to be patient and very caring of your petunias' needs.

According to Green House Grower, you'll see the best success if you plant the flowers during cooler temperatures. And, the more the temperature changes from hot to cold while they grow, the more "starry" these flowers will be.

Just make sure you don't let the plants in too hot of a temperature.

This will turn them more purple than galaxy-colored, and if we wanted purple flowers, we would have just planted purple flowers, you feel me?

So definitely take your time and give these beauties all the love and care they deserve. After that, you can enjoy your little dusting of stars and galaxies growing in your very own garden. Take that, Debra.
