People Are Calling Out A Designer Who Charges More For Plus Sizes

While it's amazing to see how many designers are embracing the body positivity movement, we still have a long way to go.

Even though we're seeing more diversity in fashion campaigns and more plus-size fashions on the racks, there is still discrimination in the industry.

Now, one designer is under fire for charging more for their plus-size options compared to other sizes.

Peter Alexander is a popular sleepwear designer based in Australia.

Even though they are based in Australia, the brand has featured lines with popular characters like Harry Potter and Archie comics.

The company also has an extensive plus-size line.

Many of the brands most popular items are available in regular and plus-size options.

However, some customers have noticed that even though the styles of these items are the same, the price is not.

Here's an example of the price difference.

Peter Alexander

This Tropical Vibes Short-Sleeved Shirt retails for $69.95 in the regular size, according to the official website of the brand.

The same shirt sells for $79.95 — a $10 difference — for the plus-size version.

Once people realized this, they were not happy to say the least, although it's something customers have brought up in the past.

The company has responded to the criticism.

"To ensure comfort and that the fit is right, we utilise a different pattern to our regular collection while still maintaining a beautiful garment. It is these different patterns, along with the size of the production run and to a lesser extent fabric consumption, that impacts the price of the styles," they said in a Facebook post.

So, it seems like there is a legit reason behind the price differences.

Th company also said, "We try and limit this as much as possible, and as the category and production grows, we hope to achieve parity across our collections."

What do you think? Does their explanation make sense or should they find a way to charge the same price for their plus and regular sizes?
