Tom Hanks Says 'Shame On You' To Those Not Wearing Masks

Tom Hanks is about done with people who are not taking the COVID-19 pandemic seriously, and he let his thoughts be known during a press conference to promote his upcoming Apple TV+ film, Greyhound.

Information about the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. Some of the information in this story may have changed since publication, and we encourage readers to use online resources from CDC and WHO to stay up to date on the latest information surrounding COVID-19.

As you may recall, Tom and his wife Rita Wilson tested positive for COVID-19 back in March.

They were the first celebrity couple to come forward with their positive diagnosis and I think it's pretty safe to say their announcement was a big wake up call to many people.

"Hello, folks. @ritawilson and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too," Tom wrote on his Insta back in March.

"To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive."

He continued: "Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?"

The whole world was rooting for the pair to make a speedy recovery!

Now, Tom's speaking out about the importance of wearing a face covering, as per the CDC recommendation!

"There’s really only three things we can do in order to get to tomorrow: Wear a mask, social distance, wash our hands," he said during a press conference for his upcoming film, Greyhound.

As you may know, America is leading the world in the highest number of COVID-19 cases, which is something that hits home for Tom.

"Those things are so simple, so easy, if anybody cannot find it in themselves to practice those three very basic things – I just think shame on you," he continued.

"Don’t be a prick, get on with it, do your part. It’s very basic. If you’re driving a car, you don’t go too fast, you use your turn signal and you avoid hitting pedestrians. My Lord, it’s common sense."

Tom then gave an update about he and his wife Rita's health after recovering from COVID-19.

"Oh, as the canaries in the coal mine for the COVID-19 experience, we are fine," Tom explained.

"We had about 10 days of very uncomfortable symptoms. Not life-threatening, we’re happy to say."

That's exactly what Tom and Rita's son, Chet, had to say back in March!

"We were isolated in order to keep an eye on ourselves because if our temperatures had spiked, if our lungs had filled, if any number of things had gone wrong with this, we would have needed expert medical care.

"We didn’t."

"I guess we were model recoverers from COVID-19, but we were also isolated so that we would not give it to anybody else that we came in contact with, and since then have been doing the same isolating, social distancing that is being asked of the world so, we are fine."

We're so glad to hear the couple is doing well!

Tom's words really resonated with fans around the world.

"You hear that, anti-maskers? You're disappointing Tom Hanks. Do you really want that on your conscience?" wrote one fan.

I KNOW I sure don't!

I think the main takeaway here is to be kind to one another and wear a mask for everyone's well-being!
