Reese Witherspoon Says She 'Didn't Understand What Homosexuality Was' Until She Moved To LA

One thing that I've always loved and admired about Reese Witherspoon is her honesty. She's never shied away or backed down from admitting her mistakes, acknowledging when she doesn't know something, or expressing what she really thinks at any given time.

In a new interview with her Legally Blonde costar Regina King, Reese has opened up about a clueless moment in her past.

In the interview, Reese and Regina discuss Reese's show *Little Fires Everywhere*.

The show, based on a book of the same name, takes place in Ohio in the 1990s and covers a variety of issues like race, sexuality, and class and airs on Hulu. The show has been a smash hit for Reese, and she discussed how she drew inspiration for the show.

Reese explained that she drew from her own experience growing up in that time.

"That great experience of being able to look at a time that was actually 30 years ago and think: 'I was a teenager then. What did my mom say about sexuality, race, class? What were the things that I was told that maybe were true or not true? How was I insensitive?'"

"No one spoke to me about sexuality when I was a teenager," she said.

Reese then revealed that growing up, "I didn’t understand what homosexuality was. My grandparents didn’t explain it; my parents didn’t explain it. I had to learn from somebody I met on an audition in Los Angeles."

"We incorporated some of the conversation I had with my grandmother afterward [into the show]," Reese revealed.

"She said: 'Homosexuality is very rare, Reese. That’s not a thing that happens very often.; And we put it in the script. Elena says it because that’s what was said to me in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1994."

It's nice to see Reese being so honest about not always knowing everything important!
