Parents Are Spilling Water On Babies For A Controversial TikTok Challenge

Millennials and Gen Z seem to be obsessed with the quick-video sharing platform. Much like the Vine app from a few years ago, TikTok lets you create short videos and share them instantly with the world.

Many people from older generations don't necessarily use or understand the platform, but videos are being shared rapidly and trends are stemming from the social media app.

The appeal is to catch others off guard and film their reactions. Sometimes, people on TikTok use their significant others and their family. But, recently, moms have been using their kids.

The moms set up their phones with the baby and themselves in focus, and, usually play some music in the background to keep things "viral and fresh." But, some think that what happens next is problematic.

The moms use a cup or water bottle to spill some water on their babies heads and film how they react to it. While some babies laugh it off and think it's funny, others not so much.

Not every kid wants to be splashed with water, especially when they are taken by surprise. Kids get scared easily at a young age, and it doesn't make it easier when mom is dousing them in water.

Some of the videos posted showed that their kids were scared and crying (although moms said they were fine immediately after). Moms, of course, began commenting saying how the trend was "wrong" and shameful.

Even though some kids didn't seem to enjoy the water splash, all kids get over things rather quickly. Many of the kids were fine moments later, according to the moms on the social media platform.

When you're going to post your kids or doing things with your kids, you leave yourself open to the possibility of being "mommy-shamed" by others online. As always, it's a double-edge sword.
