Due To Controversy, Hank Azaria Will Stop Voicing Apu On 'The Simpsons'

Yes, after years and years of voicing the character, it seems that he is finally going to be taken out of the series.

Despite the fact that he should probably be an inspiration for many immigrants, some have experienced bullying throughout their lives due to, some feel, the overdramatization of the character.

It seems like just yesterday that 'The Problem With Apu', Hari Kondabolu's documentary about the Kwik-E-Mart's owner on 'The Simpsons', was released.

Everyone was up in arms.

Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and the rest of social media got together to take down this evil character.

And it's apparently worked.

Fox

Because despite creator Matt Groening revealing he would not ax the character, the man behind the voice of the character, Hank Azaria, has made that decision for the series.

After addressing the controversy and talking about the future of Apu:

Fox

"All we know there is I won’t be doing the voice anymore unless there’s some way to transition it or something."

"What they’re going to do with the character is their call."

Fox

"It’s up to them and they haven’t sorted it out yet. All we’ve agreed on is I won’t do the voice anymore."
