Pit Bull-Dachshund Mix Uses His Unique Looks To Help Other Strays Find Homes

Pure-breed dogs are great. As long as safe breeding practices are followed, they can be happy, healthy, and full of personality.

But there is something a little more special about mixed breeds, especially when they're unusual combinations. For example, my parents' dog is a Jack Russell-poodle mix, which resulted in a brown Jack with a wiry, curly coat that confuses the heck out of people at the dog park.

A Jack-a-poo is a common enough mix to have a cute name, but a mix named Rami went viral because he was so odd.

In some photos, Rami looks like a fairly average, handsome pit bull.

But when you zoom out, it's a whole different story.

Look at that long boi!

Obviously, someone took notice of this odd-looking stray when he wandered into their yard.

It turns out that Rami was a mix of two very unlikely breeds.

"It is a true pit bull head on a dachshund body," Dawn Blanton of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society told at the time.

After the shelter shared his photos, it was no surprise that he got a lot of adoption offers.

But in the end, the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society decided to keep him on as an ambassador for all of the unique shelter dogs in need of homes.

They signed him up for training as a therapy dog and he spends his days promoting other dogs at the shelter and nights at the home of one of the staff.
