Our sweet little Dany, our Mother of Dragons, burnt a whole city of innocents to the ground.

It was the most shocking thing of the series.

Fans have been pretty unhappy with her characterization all season.

Although Dany always wanted the Iron Throne, it never pushed her to this point.

She was always after evil, and she never took the lives of innocents. Especially not children.

After episode five aired, Emilia released this hilarious photo.

She was going through it, and so were we.

Episode five was pretty brutal, and for a lot of us, very out of character.

Fans tore that storyline apart.

But with good reason, to be fair.

It really did feel, like in the moment, it was done for complete shock value.

In the final episode, Dany finally got what she wanted.

That is literally the most awkward screencap of all time.

During this interview with Entertainment Tonight, it's clear that none of them were very happy about how their characters ended up.

Emilia was worried about what one fan in particular might think.

Speaking to The New Yorker, Emilia discussed meeting Beyoncé. "I see this vision, this angel, this incredible woman float towards me. I can’t quite control myself. And Beyoncé says to me, ‘Oh, my goodness, it’s so wonderful to meet you. I think you’re brilliant.’ I just couldn’t handle it!"

She didn't react with the most grace.

Emilia said, "I was on the verge of tears. I could see myself reflected in her eyes. I could see her go, ‘Oh, no. I misjudged this. This girl is crazy and I’m not going to have a real conversation with another celebrity. I’m having a conversation with a crazed fan who’s looking at me like a rabbit in the headlights.'"

Emilia had one worry running through her mind.

Emilia recounted, "And all I wanted to scream was ‘Please, please still like me even though my character turns into a mass-killing dictator! Please still think that I’m representing women in a really fabulous way.’"

Unfortunately, Emilia knew that likely wasn't going to be the case.

She continued, "I was just, like, Oh, my God, my absolute idol in life is saying that she likes me, and I know for a fact that by the end of this season she’s going to hate me."

Emilia carried the burden of knowledge for a long time.

"I read these scripts coming on to two years ago now," She said. "When I did, I took a very long walk around London in a daze, not quite knowing how to digest the news."

"Now, finally, people are going, 'Oh, now we understand why this season hit you hard.'"

She said Daenerys' ending was a surprise to her, but it was likely her own connection to the character. "Maybe I didn’t want to see it coming because I care about Daenerys too much," she said.

So what would she have done?

Emilia told The New Yorker that she wanted more dissection between her character and Cersei.

She continued with, "I just wanted to see a bit more of that. But I’m in no position to critique the geniuses that have written eight seasons’ worth of wonderful stuff."

The interview that started it all.

To finish off, we have left you with the video that started it all. You could definitely see Emilia's awkward stance on her character's turn and ending.
